Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium, diced Yellow onion
  • 3 minced Garlic cloves
  • 1 diced Red bell pepper
  • 28 ounces Canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 12 ounces Dairy-free pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • 0.25 cup, chopped Fresh basil leaves

Directions

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 2

Add the minced garlic and diced red bell pepper. Cook for an additional 3 minutes until the pepper begins to soften.

Step 3

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until it's browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.

Step 4

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to combine flavors.

Step 6

While the sauce is simmering, cook the dairy-free pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 7

When the sauce is ready, combine it with the cooked pasta, stirring well to coat the pasta with the sauce.

Step 8

Garnish with freshly chopped basil and serve hot.
