In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
In a separate bowl, whisk together coconut milk, 50 ml of aquafaba, and vegetable oil until smooth.
Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet mixture.
Stir the mixture until a dough starts to form. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
While the dough is rising, prepare the dairy-free custard filling.
In a saucepan, combine custard powder, cornstarch, and remaining 50 ml aquafaba. Mix to form a smooth paste.
Add brown sugar and vanilla extract to the saucepan. Gradually add coconut milk while stirring continuously.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and continue to stir until the custard thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release excess air and divide it into 12 equal portions.
Roll each piece of dough into a ball and flatten it slightly. Place a spoonful of custard in the center.
Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal. Shape into a smooth bun.
Place the buns seam-side down on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit).
Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
