Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 slices dairy-free cheese slices
  • 4 buns hamburger buns
  • 4 leaves romaine lettuce
  • 1 large, sliced tomato
  • 0.5 medium, sliced into rings red onion
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup mustard
  • 8 slices pickle slices
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to keep the burgers tender.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty about 3/4 inch thick. Press a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Preheat a grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, lightly brush with olive oil to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Place the patties on the grill or pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on the first side until a crust forms and juices start to pool on the surface.

Step 5

Flip the patties and immediately top each with a slice of dairy-free cheese. Cover the grill or pan with a lid, or loosely tent with aluminum foil, to help the cheese melt. Cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes for medium doneness.

Step 6

While the burgers cook, split the hamburger buns and toast them lightly on the grill or under a broiler for about 1 to 2 minutes until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a patty, then add tomato slices, onion rings, pickles, a dollop of ketchup, and mustard. Cover with the top bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately, and enjoy your dairy-free classic cheeseburger!
