Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Almond milk (or other dairy-free milk)
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup Coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Flaxseed meal
  • 3 tablespoons Water
  • 1.5 cups Powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 3 tablespoons Almond milk (or other dairy-free milk for glaze)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan or use a non-stick spray.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine the flaxseed meal with water. Stir well and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it thickens to form a flax egg.

Step 3

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 4

In another bowl, mix the almond milk with apple cider vinegar and let it sit for a minute to curdle. Then add vanilla extract, melted coconut oil, and the prepared flax egg to this mixture.

Step 5

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each mold about 3/4 full.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean.

Step 8

Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

To make the chocolate glaze, sift powdered sugar and cocoa powder into a medium bowl. Add vanilla and almond milk, then whisk until smooth and creamy.

Step 10

Once the donuts are cooled, dip the top of each donut into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off before placing them back on the wire rack. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
