Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 7 grams Instant yeast
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 120 milliliters Almond milk
  • 100 grams Dairy-free margarine
  • 1 unit Egg substitute (such as flax egg for vegan or similar)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 150 grams Tart cherry preserves
  • 50 grams Powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well to ensure all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, gently heat the almond milk until it is just warm to the touch, about 40°C (104°F). Be careful not to overheat it.

Step 3

Add the warm almond milk, 50 grams of melted dairy-free margarine, egg substitute, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix to form a soft and slightly sticky dough.

Step 4

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to a rectangle approximately 30x20cm (12x8 inches).

Step 7

Spread the remaining dairy-free margarine (softened) evenly over the top of the dough rectangle.

Step 8

Fold the dough into thirds like folding a letter, then roll it out again to the same size. Repeat the folding and rolling process once more.

Step 9

After folding, cut the dough into 8 equal strips. Twist each strip into a spiral and shape it into a circle, pinching the ends together to form a ring. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 10

Spoon about 1 tablespoon of tart cherry preserves in the center of each dough ring.

Step 11

Cover the prepared Danishes with a kitchen towel and let them rest for 20 minutes while you preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).

Step 12

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and puffed up.

Step 13

While the Danishes are cooling, make the glaze by mixing the powdered sugar and water in a small bowl until smooth.

Step 14

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled Danishes before serving.
