Ingredients

  • 2 cans (20 oz each) Canned young green jackfruit
  • 1 cup Vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 cup Barbecue sauce (dairy-free)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).

Step 2

Drain and rinse the jackfruit. Use your fingers or a fork to pull apart the jackfruit pieces into smaller, shreds resembling pulled pork. Remove any seeds you may encounter.

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the shredded jackfruit with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Toss until the jackfruit is well coated with the spices.

Step 4

Spread the seasoned jackfruit onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 1 hour, stirring halfway through, until the jackfruit begins to dry out and take on a firmer texture.

Step 5

Increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C).

Step 6

Pour the vegetable broth over the baked jackfruit to add a touch of moisture back into it and prevent it from drying too much. Toss gently.

Step 7

Return the jackfruit to the oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 8

Remove the jackfruit from the oven and pour the barbecue sauce over it. Toss thoroughly to coat.

Step 9

Return the jackfruit to the oven for a final 30 minutes, allowing the barbecue sauce to caramelize slightly and the jackfruit to form crispy edges.

Step 10

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve these dairy-free burnt ends with your favorite sides or in sandwiches.
