Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Bread slices
  • 1.5 cups Chickpea flour (besan)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoons Carom seeds (ajwain)
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoons Ginger paste
  • 2 pieces Green chilies, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander, chopped
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)

Directions

Step 1

Start by cutting each bread slice into halves, creating triangular pieces. Set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, ground cumin, carom seeds, salt, and baking soda.

Step 3

Add water gradually to the dry mix, stirring continuously, until a smooth, lump-free batter forms. The batter should have a slightly thick consistency.

Step 4

Incorporate ginger paste, finely chopped green chilies, and chopped coriander into the batter and mix well.

Step 5

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or kadhai over medium heat.

Step 6

While the oil is heating, dip a piece of bread into the batter, ensuring it is well-coated on all sides.

Step 7

Carefully place the batter-coated bread into the hot oil. Fry a few pieces at a time, but do not overcrowd the pan.

Step 8

Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes or until the pakora turns golden brown and crispy.

Step 9

Remove the bread pakoras using a slotted spoon and drain excess oil on a paper towel.

Step 10

Serve the dairy-free bread pakoras hot with your choice of chutney or sauce.
