Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) Instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.5 cup Non-dairy milk (such as almond or soy milk)
  • 10 Hot dogs (dairy-free)
  • 0.5 cup Baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon Coarse salt

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water and 1 packet of instant yeast. Allow the yeast to dissolve and become slightly frothy, about 5 minutes.

Step 2

Stir in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Step 3

Add 2.5 cups of all-purpose flour and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary to prevent sticking.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 20 minutes in a warm place until it doubles in size.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 7

Divide the dough into ten equal parts. Roll each part into a log long enough to wrap around the hotdog.

Step 8

Wrap each hotdog in the dough, pinching the ends to seal, and cut each wrapped hotdog into four equal pieces.

Step 9

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and 0.5 cup of baking soda to a boil.

Step 10

Gently drop the hotdog bites into the boiling water, a few at a time, for about 30 seconds and remove them with a slotted spoon.

Step 11

Place the boiled bites onto the prepared baking sheet.

Step 12

Brush each bite with non-dairy milk and sprinkle with coarse salt.

Step 13

Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 14

Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Dairy-Free Auntie Anne's Hotdog Bites!
