Ingredients

  • 4 medium, boiled and peeled Potatoes
  • 1 cup, boiled Green peas
  • 0.25 cup, chopped Fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 teaspoon, grated Ginger
  • 1 small, finely chopped Green chili
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon or to taste Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Cornflour
  • 2 tablespoons Rice flour
  • 4 tablespoons or as needed for shallow frying Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Boil and peel the potatoes. Once cooled slightly, mash them in a large mixing bowl until smooth. Ensure there are no lumps.

Step 2

Add boiled green peas to the mashed potatoes and mash slightly leaving some texture from the peas.

Step 3

Add chopped coriander leaves, grated ginger, and chopped green chili to the mixture.

Step 4

Sprinkle ground cumin, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt over the potato mixture and mix everything thoroughly until well combined.

Step 5

Add cornflour and rice flour to the mixture. This will help to bind the tikis and give them a nice crispy texture.

Step 6

Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into small patties or tikis, ensuring they are roughly the same size.

Step 7

Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Ensure you have enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan for shallow frying.

Step 8

Carefully place the shaped tikis into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each side for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Step 9

Once cooked, remove the tikis from the oil and drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

Step 10

Serve the dairy-free aloo tikis hot with your choice of chutney or sauce.
