Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground sausage
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 large, diced Onion
  • 4 stalks, diced Celery
  • 3 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 10 cups Day-old bread cubes
  • 0.25 cup, chopped Fresh parsley
  • 2 teaspoons Poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 cups Turkey drippings or chicken stock
  • 2 large, beaten Eggs

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Break it into small pieces as you cook. Once done, transfer the cooked sausage to a bowl and set aside, leaving any rendered fat in the skillet.

Step 3

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion, celery, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are softened and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sausage, sautéed vegetables, bread cubes, parsley, poultry seasoning, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Toss well to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 5

Gradually drizzle the turkey drippings (or chicken stock) over the mixture, tossing lightly until the bread cubes are moistened but not soggy.

Step 6

Add the beaten eggs to the stuffing mixture and gently fold them in to bind the ingredients together.

Step 7

Transfer the stuffing mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and slightly crisp.

Step 10

Remove the stuffing from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy with your holiday feast!
