Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 Yellow onion, diced
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 8 ounces Tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 2 teaspoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 12 Lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.75 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef, sausage, and diced onion until browned. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Step 3

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Add the sugar, dried basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of chopped parsley. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and rinse with cold water. Lay the noodles flat on a sheet of parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Step 5

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and the remaining 1 tablespoon of chopped parsley. Mix well and set aside.

Step 6

Spread 1 1/2 cups of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella and 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan on top.

Step 7

Repeat the layering process (sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan) two more times, ending with a layer of sauce topped with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Step 8

Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil, making sure it doesn’t touch the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 10

Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
