Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounces Tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 teaspoons Dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons Dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 pieces Bay leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat and transfer the meat to the crock pot.

Step 2

In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion until soft, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, until fragrant. Add the onion and garlic mixture to the crock pot.

Step 3

To the crock pot, add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water. Stir to combine.

Step 4

Add the dried basil, dried oregano, granulated sugar, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and bay leaves. Stir everything together thoroughly.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with the lid and cook on low heat for 6 hours or on high heat for 3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 6

After cooking, taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed (add more salt or pepper to taste). Remove the bay leaves before serving.

Step 7

Serve the spaghetti sauce over cooked pasta of your choice and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Step 8

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
