Ingredients

  • 4 cups canned navy beans
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1 medium, diced yellow onion
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Transfer the cooked bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain, then crumble it into small pieces. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the skillet.

Step 3

In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion in the reserved bacon grease over medium heat until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked onion, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to form a smooth sauce.

Step 5

Gently fold the canned navy beans and crumbled cooked bacon into the sauce, ensuring everything is evenly coated.

Step 6

Transfer the mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish or a large Dutch oven, spreading it out evenly.

Step 7

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.

Step 8

After 1 hour, remove the foil, stir the beans, and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened and bubbling.

Step 9

Remove the baked beans from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this warm, comforting dish as a side for grilled meats, sandwiches, or simply on its own!
