Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 10 g instant yeast
  • 10 g salt
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 300 ml lukewarm water
  • 30 ml olive oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 10 ml extra olive oil (for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, salt, and ground cumin. Mix well to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, mix the lukewarm water, olive oil, and honey. Stir until the honey is fully dissolved.

Step 3

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon or your hands until a rough dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed, but avoid adding too much.

Step 5

Place the dough in a clean, lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough to release the air and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a disc about 1 cm thick.

Step 7

Cover the discs with the damp cloth and allow them to rest for 15 minutes while you prepare your braai or grill. Preheat the grill to medium heat.

Step 8

Brush both sides of each bread disc lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking and to enhance flavor.

Step 9

Place the bread discs directly on the grill grates. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and have grill marks. Rotate the bread halfway through each side to ensure even cooking.

Step 10

Remove the bread from the grill and serve warm. Enjoy as a side dish or use to wrap grilled meats, vegetables, or dips.
