Peel and cube the Russet potatoes into roughly 1-inch pieces. Rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch.
Place the cubed potatoes and whole garlic cloves in a large pot. Fill the pot with enough water to cover the potatoes by an inch. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook the potatoes until they are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
