  • 1 leaf bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the beef chuck roast with salt and black pepper on both sides, then sear it in the skillet for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Transfer the beef to the crock pot.

Step 2

Peel and cut the carrots and potatoes into bite-sized chunks. Dice the onion, slice the celery stalks, and mince the garlic cloves.

Add the carrots, potatoes, onion, and celery to the crock pot, arranging them around the beef.
