Ingredients

  • 1 head Green cabbage
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Ground pork
  • 1 cup Cooked white rice
  • 1 small, diced Yellow onion
  • 2 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1.5 cups Tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup Beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions

Step 1

Carefully remove 10-12 large outer leaves from the head of cabbage. Boil a large pot of water and blanch the cabbage leaves for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened. Drain and set aside to cool.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooked white rice, diced onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix thoroughly until fully incorporated.

Step 3

Lay each cabbage leaf flat on a cutting board and place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in the center. Fold in the sides and roll up tightly, tucking in the edges as you go to create a neat roll.

Step 4

In the crock pot, mix together the tomato sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce to create the cooking sauce.

Step 5

Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the crock pot, arranging them in a single layer. If needed, create a second layer, but ensure the rolls are snug but not overcrowded.

Step 6

Pour the remaining sauce over the rolls, ensuring they are fully covered.

Step 7

Cover the crock pot with the lid and cook on low heat for 6-7 hours, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is fully cooked.

Step 8

Serve the cabbage rolls hot, spooning extra sauce over the top.
