Ingredients

  • 4 pieces beef steaks (sirloin, chuck, or flank)
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Season the steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides.

Step 2

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 2–3 minutes on each side until browned. This step locks in flavor.

Step 3

In the crock pot, layer the sliced onions and minced garlic as a base.

Step 4

Place the seared steaks on top of the onion and garlic layer.

Step 5

In a mixing bowl, whisk together beef broth, worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Pour the mixture over the steaks in the crock pot.

Step 6

Cover the crock pot with the lid and cook on low heat for 8 hours or until the steaks are tender and easily pull apart with a fork.

Step 7

About 20 minutes before the cooking time is finished, mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl to make a slurry. Stir this into the crock pot to thicken the gravy.

Step 8

Once the cooking is complete, carefully remove the steaks from the crock pot and serve with the rich onion gravy drizzled on top.

Step 9

Pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
