Ingredients

  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup dark rum

  • 8 pieces whole cloves
  • 3 sticks cinnamon sticks
  • 2 pieces star anise
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large apple slices (for garnish)
  • 4 sticks cinnamon sticks (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Pour the apple cider into a large crock pot (slow cooker).

Step 2

Slice the orange into thin rounds and stud each slice with 1-2 whole cloves. Add the clove-studded orange slices to the crock pot.

Break the cinnamon sticks in half and add them to the pot along with the star anise and ground nutmeg.

Step 4

Stir in the brown sugar and vanilla extract until dissolved.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to LOW. Allow the cider to simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally to ensure the spices distribute evenly.
