Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Round steak
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 large Yellow onion, sliced
  • 8 ounces Mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Season the round steak with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.

Step 2

Lightly dredge each piece of steak in the all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steak on both sides until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer the seared steak to the crock pot.

Step 4

In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions and mushrooms until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add them to the crock pot, spreading evenly over the steak.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture over the steak and vegetables in the crock pot.

Step 6

Cover the crock pot with a lid and cook on low for 6 hours, or until the steak is tender and easily cut with a fork.

Step 7

About 15 minutes before serving, make a cornstarch slurry by mixing the cornstarch with water in a small bowl. Stir the slurry into the crock pot to thicken the gravy.

Step 8

Serve the smothered steak over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
