Ingredients

  • 1 pound(s) ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 15 ounce(s) tomato sauce
  • 0.25 cup(s) ketchup
  • 0.5 cup(s) water
  • 2 tablespoon(s) chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon(s) smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon(s) ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon(s) dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon(s) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon(s) cayenne pepper (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up into small crumbles as it cooks. Cook until no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.

Step 2

Transfer the browned ground beef to the crock pot.

Step 3

Add the finely diced onion, minced garlic, tomato sauce, ketchup, and water to the crock pot.

Step 4

Stir in chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, sugar, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to combine.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to cook on LOW for 4 hours or HIGH for 2 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more salt or chili powder if desired.

Step 7

Once done, serve the hot dog chili warm over grilled hot dogs in buns. Optionally, top with shredded cheese, diced onions, or mustard for extra flavor.
