Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef round steak
  • 0.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 medium carrots
  • 2 medium celery stalks
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons parsley

Directions

Step 1

Trim any excess fat from the beef round steaks and cut into serving-sized portions.

Step 2

In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, and black pepper. Dredge each steak piece in the flour mixture until evenly coated.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the steak pieces on each side until golden, but do not cook through. Transfer the browned steak to the crock pot.

Step 4

Peel and slice the onion, carrots, and celery into thin, even pieces. Layer the vegetables on top of the steak in the crock pot.

Step 5

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the tomato sauce, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well and pour evenly over the steak and vegetables in the crock pot.

Step 6

Cover the crock pot with the lid and cook on low heat for 6 hours, or until the beef is tender and the vegetables are cooked through.

Step 7

Before serving, sprinkle the dish with chopped parsley to add freshness and flavor.

Step 8

Serve the Crock Pot Deviled Swiss Steak over mashed potatoes, rice, or alongside crusty bread for a complete meal.
