Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Country-style pork ribs
  • 32 oz Sauerkraut
  • 1 large Yellow onion
  • 1 medium Apple
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Caraway seeds
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.

Step 2

Season the country-style pork ribs with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 3

Sear the ribs in the skillet for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

Peel and thinly slice the yellow onion. Core the apple and cut it into thin slices.

Step 5

Drain the sauerkraut and rinse it under cold water if you prefer a milder flavor.

Step 6

Layer half of the sauerkraut in the bottom of the crock pot.

Step 7

Add half of the sliced onion and half of the apple slices on top of the sauerkraut.

Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of caraway seeds over the layers.

Place the seared ribs on top of the sauerkraut mixture.

Pour the chicken broth over the entire mixture.

Cover the crock pot with its lid and cook on low heat for 6 hours, or until the ribs are tender and cooked through.
