Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup Light brown sugar
  • 1.5 cups Hot water

Directions

Step 1

Grease the inside of a 4-quart crock pot with nonstick cooking spray or butter.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

Step 3

Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth.

Step 4

Fold in the chocolate chips and pour the batter evenly into the prepared crock pot.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, mix together the light brown sugar and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the crock pot.

Step 6

Carefully pour the hot water over the top. Do not stir; the water will create a sauce as the cake cooks.

Step 7

Cover the crock pot with a lid and cook on high for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the center of the cake is set but still gooey.

Step 8

Once done, turn off the crock pot and let the mud cake cool for 10 minutes.

Step 9

Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an indulgent treat!
