Ingredients

  • 10 cups Day-old bread (cubed)
  • 1 pound Ground sausage
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 medium Yellow onion (diced)
  • 4 stalks Celery (diced)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups Chicken broth
  • 2 Eggs (beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 as needed Nonstick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Spray the inside of a Crock Pot with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 2

Place the cubed bread on a large baking sheet and let it sit out overnight to dry, or toast it in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 10-15 minutes until lightly crisped.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage, breaking it into small pieces, until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the onion, celery, and garlic for 5-7 minutes, or until softened and fragrant.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes, cooked sausage, sautéed vegetables, parsley, sage, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Toss to mix evenly.

Step 6

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and beaten eggs. Pour this mixture evenly over the bread mixture, ensuring the bread is evenly moistened but not soggy.

Step 7

Transfer the mixture to the prepared Crock Pot, pressing it down gently to fit.

Step 8

Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours, or until the stuffing is heated through and the top is slightly crisp around the edges.

Step 9

Once done, turn off the Crock Pot and let the stuffing sit uncovered for 5-10 minutes to allow excess moisture to evaporate before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm as a delicious holiday side dish!
