Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups Barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts at the bottom of your crock pot in a single layer.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well blended.

Step 3

Pour the barbecue sauce mixture evenly over the chicken breasts, ensuring they are fully coated.

Step 4

Cover the crock pot with its lid and set it to cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or on HIGH for 2-3 hours, depending on your desired cooking schedule.

Step 5

Check the chicken towards the end of the cooking time. It should be tender and easily shredded with a fork. If the chicken is not yet cooked through, continue cooking and check again after 30 minutes.

Step 6

Once done, remove the chicken from the crock pot and use two forks to shred it. Return the shredded chicken to the crock pot and stir it into the sauce.

Step 7

Allow the shredded barbecue chicken to sit in the sauce on the WARM setting for an additional 15-20 minutes to absorb more flavor.

Step 8

Serve the barbecue chicken on toasted buns, atop rice, or with your favorite sides like coleslaw, cornbread, or baked beans.
