Ingredients

  • 6 pounds Apples
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground Allspice
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and chop all the apples into small chunks, ensuring there are no seeds or tough core bits left.

Step 2

Place the chopped apples into your crock pot or slow cooker.

Step 3

Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and salt over the apples.

Step 4

Pour in the water and stir the mixture to evenly coat the apples with the sugar and spices.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to cook on low for 10 hours or overnight, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Step 6

After 10 hours, the apples should be soft and dark brown in color. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until it is silky smooth. If you don’t have an immersion blender, let the mixture cool slightly and blend in batches in a traditional blender.

Step 7

Stir in the vanilla extract and taste the apple butter to adjust sweetness if necessary.

Step 8

If the apple butter is not as thick as you’d like, leave the lid slightly ajar and cook on low for an additional 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired consistency.

Step 9

Once done, allow the apple butter to cool completely. Transfer to sterilized jars or airtight containers for storage.

Step 10

Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for longer shelf life. Serve and enjoy!
