Ingredients

  • 3 lbs Beef short ribs
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 3 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves Minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp Grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 0.5 cup Beef broth
  • 2 stalks Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Pat the beef short ribs dry with a paper towel and season them lightly with salt and pepper on all sides.

Step 2

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and beef broth.

Step 3

Place the short ribs in the crock pot in a single layer (you may need to overlap them slightly).

Step 4

Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the short ribs, ensuring they are well-coated.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with a lid and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, until the short ribs are tender and falling off the bone.

Step 6

Once cooked, use a spoon to skim off any excess fat from the top of the sauce.

Step 7

Optional: To thicken the sauce, remove the ribs and transfer the liquid to a saucepan. Simmer the liquid on medium heat for 5-10 minutes until slightly reduced.

Step 8

Serve the ribs over steamed rice or noodles, spooning the sauce on top.

Step 9

Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
