Ingredients

  • 4 medium Apples (sweet varieties such as Fuji or Gala)
  • 4 medium Pears (Bartlett or Anjou)
  • 1 inch piece, grated Fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

Directions

Step 1

Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples and pears into roughly 1-inch chunks.

Step 2

Place the chopped apples and pears into the crock pot.

Step 3

Add the grated ginger, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and water to the crock pot. Stir to combine.

Step 4

If you prefer a sweeter sauce, stir in the honey or maple syrup at this stage.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with its lid and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or until the fruit is very soft and easily mashed.

Step 6

Once cooked, use an immersion blender for a smooth sauce or a potato masher for a chunkier texture. Blend or mash to your desired consistency.

Step 7

Allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for longer storage.
