Ingredients

  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1.5 cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a roux.

Step 4

Slowly add the milk and heavy cream to the roux, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese, Gruyère cheese, Dijon mustard, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Continue stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 6

Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce in a large mixing bowl, ensuring the pasta is evenly coated.

Step 7

Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 8

In a small bowl, mix the Panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

Step 9

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let the dish cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
