In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
Add the chopped dates and brown sugar to the saucepan. Stir constantly and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dates have broken down and the mixture is smooth and bubbling.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chopped nuts until well combined.
