Ingredients

  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 7 grams dry yeast
  • 250 milliliters lukewarm water
  • 60 milliliters extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 50 grams sesame seeds (optional for topping)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix the dry yeast, lukewarm water, and sugar. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, dried oregano, and ground cumin. Stir briefly to distribute the dry ingredients evenly.

Step 3

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Step 4

Knead the ingredients together until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and allow it to rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin rope (about 25-30 cm in length) and shape into a ring, pinching the ends together firmly.

Step 8

If using sesame seeds, lightly brush the rings with water and sprinkle sesame seeds over the surface.

Step 9

Place the prepared rings onto the baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.

Step 10

Allow the bread rings to cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy them fresh, or store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
