Ingredients

  • 2 pounds pumpkin, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 sprig fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Begin by peeling the pumpkin and removing its seeds. Cut the pumpkin into evenly sized cubes, approximately 1-inch each.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the cubed pumpkin and cook until very tender, about 20-25 minutes.

Step 3

Drain the pumpkin and return it to the pot. Allow it to sit for a minute so excess moisture can evaporate.

Step 4

Add the unsalted butter to the warm pumpkin and mash using a potato masher or for a smoother texture, use an immersion blender.

Step 5

Pour in the heavy cream and continue mashing until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Step 6

Season the mash with ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and taste to adjust seasoning if necessary.

Step 7

Serve the pumpkin mash hot, garnished with a sprig of fresh thyme if desired.
