Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 units garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2.5 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian option)
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.75 cup Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Melt the butter with the olive oil in a medium-sized skillet or pot over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Step 3

Stir in the orzo pasta and toast it in the butter and garlic mixture for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the orzo is lightly golden.

Step 4

Pour in the chicken (or vegetable) broth and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook the orzo for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid is absorbed and the orzo is tender.

Step 6

Lower the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Continue stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is creamy.

Step 7

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 8

Remove from heat and garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.

Step 9

Serve immediately as a main dish or a complementary side.
