Ingredients

  • 400 grams elbow macaroni
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour to form a roux and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Step 4

Gradually add the milk and heavy cream to the roux, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook the mixture over medium heat until thickened, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese, mixing until the cheeses have melted and the sauce is smooth. Add salt, black pepper, and paprika for seasoning.

Step 6

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until fully coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 7

In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter and olive oil. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese in the baking dish.

Step 8

Bake the macaroni in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy your creamy baked macaroni!
