Ingredients

  • 125 grams unsalted butter
  • 100 grams granulated sugar
  • 200 grams all-purpose flour
  • 4 pieces apples (peeled, cored, and thinly sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 250 milliliters heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 3

Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour to form a dough for the shortbread crust.

Step 4

Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish and prick it all over with a fork.

Step 5

Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 6

In another bowl, toss the apple slices with ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg until well coated.

Step 7

Layer the spiced apple slices evenly over the baked crust.

Step 8

In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar until smooth.

Step 9

Pour the cream mixture over the apples, spreading it evenly to cover the layers.

Step 10

Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, or until the custard is set and the apples are tender.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let cool to room temperature in the baking dish.

Step 12

Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the custard to fully set.

Step 13

Slice into squares or rectangles and dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
