Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon green onion (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2

Wash and scrub the sweet potatoes thoroughly, then pierce them a few times with a fork to allow steam to escape.

Step 3

Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Bake them in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until they are soft and can be easily pierced with a fork.

Step 4

Once the sweet potatoes are cooked, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly until they are safe to handle.

Step 5

Peel the skins off the sweet potatoes and place the flesh into a large mixing bowl.

Step 6

Add the butter, heavy cream, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to the sweet potato flesh.

Step 7

Using a potato masher or an electric hand mixer, mash the mixture together until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasonings to taste.

Step 8

Transfer the mashed sweet potatoes to a serving bowl. Garnish with finely chopped green onion if desired, to add a pop of color and contrast.

Step 9

Serve warm as a side dish and enjoy!
