Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cold and cubed
  • 0.75 cups whole milk (plus more for brushing, if desired)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until evenly combined.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter and cream cheese to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter and cream cheese into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces.

Step 4

Pour in the milk gradually, stirring with a fork or wooden spoon until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the biscuits tough.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times to bring it together, then pat it into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick.

Step 6

Using a round biscuit cutter (approximately 2.5 inches in diameter), cut out biscuits and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet. Gather the scraps, re-roll, and cut out more biscuits until all the dough is used.

Step 7

Optional: Brush the tops of the biscuits with a little milk for a golden finish.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are puffed up and lightly golden on top.

Step 9

Serve warm, and enjoy with butter, jam, or your favorite toppings.
