Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 4 ounces Cold cream cheese, cubed
  • 0.75 cup Cold whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons Melted butter (optional, for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter and cream cheese to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter and cream cheese into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces.

Step 4

Pour the cold milk into the flour mixture and gently stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch-thick rectangle. Fold the dough over onto itself 3-4 times to create layers, then pat it out again into a roughly 1-inch-thick sheet.

Step 6

Use a 2- to 3-inch round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits, making sure not to twist the cutter (this can seal the edges and prevent them from rising properly). Gather the scraps, reshape, and cut out more biscuits as needed.

Step 7

Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

Step 9

If desired, brush the tops of the warm biscuits with melted butter for extra flavor.

Step 10

Serve warm and enjoy your flaky, tender cream cheese biscuits!
