Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Yellow mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Brown mustard seeds
  • 1 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 unit Habanero chili (optional, finely minced)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized bowl, combine yellow mustard seeds, brown mustard seeds, apple cider vinegar, and water. Stir the mixture to ensure the seeds are fully submerged.

Step 2

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and let the mixture sit at room temperature for at least 24 hours to allow the seeds to soften and absorb the liquid.

Step 3

After 24 hours, transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor.

Step 4

Add ground cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, honey, salt, turmeric powder, garlic powder, and finely minced habanero chili (if using) to the blender.

Step 5

Blend the mixture until you achieve your desired mustard consistency. For a smooth mustard, blend longer; for a grainier texture, blend less.

Step 6

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more honey for sweetness or more cayenne for extra spice.

Step 7

Transfer the mustard to a sterilized glass jar or airtight container.

Step 8

Refrigerate the mustard for at least 1 day before using to allow the flavors to meld and develop.

Step 9

Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. Stir before each use and enjoy Crazy John's Spicy Mustard on your favorite dishes!
