Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 0.5 cup tangerine juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tablespoon tangerine zest
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch pinch of salt

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the cranberries and blueberries under cold water, removing any debris or stems, and set them aside.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the fresh cranberries, tangerine juice, tangerine zest, granulated sugar, water, and ground cinnamon.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 4

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. As it cooks, the cranberries will begin to burst open, releasing their juices.

Step 5

After about 5 minutes of simmering, add the fresh blueberries to the saucepan and gently stir to combine.

Step 6

Continue to cook for an additional 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly and the berries are soft but not completely broken down.

Step 7

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, which enhances the flavor of the sauce.

Step 8

Allow the sauce to cool to room temperature. It will thicken further as it cools.

Step 9

Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl or an airtight container if storing. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to one week.
