Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup Port wine
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Orange zest
  • 0.25 cup Orange juice
  • 1 stick Cinnamon stick
  • 0.125 teaspoon Ground cloves (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and discard any that are soft or damaged.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the port wine, granulated sugar, orange zest, orange juice, and cinnamon stick. Stir to dissolve the sugar.

Step 3

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

Add the cranberries to the saucepan and reduce the heat to medium-low.

Step 5

Cook the cranberry mixture for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens. If using ground cloves, stir them in during the last 2 minutes of cooking.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the cranberry sauce to cool slightly. Discard the cinnamon stick.

Step 7

Transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving dish and let it cool completely at room temperature. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Step 8

Refrigerate if not serving immediately. Serve chilled or at room temperature alongside your holiday dishes.
