Ingredients

  • 12 oz Fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup Dried cherries
  • 0.5 cup Orange juice
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 tsp Ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Orange zest

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and pick out any that are soft or discolored.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the orange juice, water, and granulated sugar. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.

Step 3

Once the sugar has dissolved, add the fresh cranberries and dried cherries to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

Step 4

Reduce heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries will begin to pop, and the sauce will thicken as it cooks.

Step 5

Add the ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and orange zest to the saucepan. Stir to evenly distribute the spices.

Step 6

Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes, then remove the saucepan from the heat.

Step 7

Allow the cranberry sauce to cool slightly, as it will thicken further as it cools.

Step 8

Transfer the sauce to a serving dish or airtight container. Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.
