  • 0.5 cup Orange juice
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Zest of an orange
  • 1 stick Cinnamon stick
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 0.125 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the cranberries under cold water and discard any damaged berries.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the port wine, orange juice, and granulated sugar. Stir well.

Step 3

Add the fresh cranberries, orange zest, cinnamon stick, ground cloves, and salt to the saucepan.

Step 4

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.

Step 5

Once simmering, reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Discard the cinnamon stick before serving.

Step 8

Serve warm or chilled, and enjoy as a side dish with roasted meats or holiday meals.
