  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 whole egg yolk, for egg wash
  • 1 teaspoons water, for egg wash

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.

Add the cold cubed butter to the bowl and, using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
