Ingredients

  • 1 9-inch crust Pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 3 cups Apples (peeled, cored, and thinly sliced)
  • 1.5 cups Fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 0.5 cup Rolled oats
  • 0.25 cup Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan and crimp the edges. Set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the apples, cranberries, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until the fruit is evenly coated.

Step 3

Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, make the streusel topping by combining the flour, oats, and brown sugar. Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers, until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chopped nuts if using.

Step 5

Sprinkle the streusel mixture evenly over the fruit filling.

Step 6

Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips, and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the filling is bubbling and the streusel is golden brown.

Step 7

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack before serving. This allows the filling to set properly.

Step 8

Serve plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
