Ingredients

  • 2 cups Fresh cranberries
  • 4 cups Apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 1 cup Apple cider
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground allspice
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Wash the cranberries thoroughly and set them aside.

Step 2

Peel, core, and dice apples into small chunks, ensuring they are evenly sized for even cooking.

Step 3

In a large pot, combine the cranberries, diced apples, and apple cider. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to pop and the apples soften, about 15 minutes.

Step 4

Using an immersion blender or transferring the mixture to a blender in batches, puree the mixture until smooth.

Step 5

Return the pureed mixture to the pot. Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until the mixture thickens into a butter-like consistency. Be careful to avoid burning by stirring regularly.

Step 6

Once thickened, stir in the vanilla extract and cook for another 5 minutes.

Step 7

Let the cranberry apple butter cool slightly before transferring it to sterilized jars.

Step 8

Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or process jars in a hot water bath for long-term storage.
