Ingredients

  • 12 sheets lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain, rinse with cool water to prevent sticking, and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, and diced onion until the meats are browned and the onion softens, about 8-10 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 additional minute.

Step 4

Stir in the marinara sauce, dried basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the meat sauce for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove from heat.

Step 5

In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and 2 cups of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Stir until well combined.

Step 6

Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce across the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 7

Add a single layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, trimming if necessary to fit.

Step 8

Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture (about one-third) over the noodles. Top with another layer of meat sauce.

Step 9

Repeat the layering process (noodles, ricotta, meat sauce) two more times, ending with a final layer of meat sauce on top.

Step 10

Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top layer.

Step 11

Cover the baking dish with foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese to help prevent sticking.

Step 12

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes covered. Then, remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 13

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Step 14

Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
