Ingredients

  • 60 grams butter
  • 60 grams plain flour
  • 500 milliliters milk
  • 120 grams cheddar cheese, grated
  • 300 grams cooked pasta (e.g., macaroni or penne)
  • 250 grams canned tuna in spring water, drained
  • 100 grams frozen peas
  • 100 grams sweet corn (canned or frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 60 grams breadcrumbs
  • 30 grams grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for 1–2 minutes to form a smooth roux.

Step 3

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens into a creamy béchamel sauce.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, drained tuna, peas, sweet corn, and parsley. Pour the cheese sauce over the mixture and stir until everything is evenly coated.

Step 6

Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 7

In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the tuna mornay.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Garnish with additional parsley if desired, and serve warm.
