Ingredients

  • 2000 grams Crabapples
  • 1500 milliliters Water
  • 100 grams Sugar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Wash the crabapples thoroughly under cold water to remove dirt and debris. Remove any stems and leaves.

Step 2

Cut the crabapples in half to check for blemishes or worms, discarding any undesirable parts.

Step 3

Place the halved crabapples in a large pot and add 1500 milliliters of water to fully submerge them.

Step 4

Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the crabapples are soft and beginning to break down.

Step 5

Use a potato masher or spoon to gently crush the cooked crabapples in the pot to release their juices.

Step 6

Place a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a large bowl. Carefully pour the crabapple mixture into the strainer, allowing the juice to drain through. Press the pulp with a spoon to extract as much juice as possible.

Step 7

If desired, add sugar and lemon juice to the strained liquid, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.

Step 8

Pour the crabapple juice into clean, sterilized bottles or jars and let it cool completely before storing in the refrigerator.

Step 9

Serve chilled or over ice. The juice can also be diluted with water or sparkling water for a lighter flavor.
